I recently got hung up on a log with braid and I just pulled until it snapped the line. Not sure what happened but now it is very hard to reel and the handle will spin backwards. Any clue what happened?

You trashed the antireverse clutch and/or spring.

Yeah, I just cut the line if it isnt coming off. The extra few inches/feet of braid isnt worth destroying the reel. I am not knocking your decision, I learned this the hard way as well. Best case scenario of pulling is that you straighten the hook out and that sucks as well.

Next time, wrap a towel around your paddle or net handle, then wrap the braid around the towel, and pull.

Send it to southwest parts... they will get it right, you broke a linkage somewhere for sure

I have a 6 inch piece of radiator hose, with a matching piece of broom handle inside it. I wrap the line around that and pull on it until it either breaks the line or bends the hook. Used it numerable times without damages. Works great!

Try backing the drag all the way out (loose) then tighten it back down and see if that helps.

X2. Depending on what reel you have, the anti reverse clutch is about a $7-$10 part plus shipping if you do it yourself. Not that complicated to install.

I had that happen to one. Ended up trashed but I did crank the handle as hard as I could and it kind of popped and loosened up for the rest of the day. Lol
