Geez coming back from a road trip picking up a boat trailer and learned that my boat storage at Sam Rayburn was broken into and the thief stole all the rods and reels in one locker. They belonged to my 14 year old son who fishes in the SETX High School Fishing Tourneys. Thank goodness this year is over and I have several months to replenish his rods and reels before it starts up again. If any of you are around Sam Rayburn and see Lews rods and reels, Diawa rods and Shimano reels, and a few custom rods with the name Jason on them, please give me or the San Augustine Sheriffs department a shout. I sure would like to recover some of my son's rods and reels as soon a possible so he can get back on the water bass fishing.

Your insurance should cover this less your deductible. Unfortunately this happens far too often. Best of luck

I have Progressive through USAA and unfortunately I didn't have fishing equipment coverage, I do now! Didn't know it wasn't covered.

Why would home owners cover it? The boat was in a storage facility, not at home. That would be awesome if that is the case.

Home owners should cover it no matter where it is. Even out of town at a hotel or in storage.

Home owners should cover 10% of your limit while away from the residence premises . if you go over the limit remember the deductible should be applied to the loss not the limit

Your insurance agent should offer some helpful advice. If you call them in a time of need like this and they just say "sorry that isn't covered" without offering some kind of help then switch companies immediately. I got the run around once. I now have an insurance agent that explains things to me and can advise me on policies and limits that take most of the worry away. Good luck.

My home owners covers my tackle, and my boat policy (no longer own one at the moment) had an extra ~10,000 for graphs/tackle. Boat policies sometimes won't cover anything that isn't permanently mounted to the boat itself.

Man that sure SUCKS... should turn thieves when caught over to a group of anglers at a tourney and have them flogged with 2oz tungsten weghts tied to braid!! can you imagine how much force whipping that weight while attached to a 8' punching rod would generate?!?! then post the "after" pics to dissuade others from stealing!! back in the day dead men hanging from branches was a dang good deterrent!!

As for insurance please make sure your provider is AWARE of the COSTS that we have wrapped up in this sport!! Give em a detailed idea of what you have in the boat. I had some basic coverage on my boat and "thought" I would have been covered but that was FAR from the case!! I gave her a listing of what I usually carried(ie 15 rod combos with est value of $250 each and 20 plano boxes with roughly 30 cranks each box and then at least 200 bags of soft plastics at say $4 each) and she was like "you def NEED to get some additional coverage!! So now thank goodness we had that talk cus I would have been out a LOT if something bad were to happen otherwise.

Thanks a lot guys. I talked to home owners insurance yesterday and looks like they will cover after 1% deductible which is $2600, so at least it didn't leave me with the whole bill -donations from you kind folks and others like you!

yes sir it is 1% of total coverage which is $260,000. shocked me that it was that high.

You might double check on that one. Personal property loss usually is $200-500 deductible. the 1% usually applies to the building, not the contents, or property not on sight.I have not had a claim in a long time, but last time I did, several deer rifles, a couple of handguns, gps, etc, was stolen out of the truck, all covered under home owners, I think $200 deductible

Boat was in storage at the lake, so they gave me the 1% due to it being property not on site.
