Been running one that has been flawless since 08. 225HO
Uses almost no oil when compared to the others and sips fuel.

When they are good, they are good, but they are not all good.

I loved mine. Talked to 2 local highly respected shops before I bought mine and both recommended them. They were not wrong.

225ho and 250ho love them both. Fast, dependable and so quiet. Both crank first turn of the key.

I have had Mercury on every rig I've fished out of since I was a kid and don't have anything against them. They all break eventually. When I started pre-owned boat shopping last year I asked my mechanic for his opinion on the most reliable current motors because I trust him. He said if you can't get an Evinrude, get Yamaha. I ended up with Yamaha. fwiw

Have a 2012 250 HO on my Stratos and I love it. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

I had a merc (optimax)on my last boat and had a few little problems. Didn't bother me. The boat I have now has an etec. I took it in for the 300 hour service (first one) and discovered I actually had 384 hours on it. Not a single problem with the motor. It is serviced and continues to run like new.

That's pretty much true with all manufactures. Some go boom.

The new ones have a 8 year warranty. The company is really making an effort to build back up business.
