I am heading to Hubbard Creek on Sunday. Does anyone know if the grass or hydrilla has grown any and possibly where. Just my Fall fishing trip with a couple of senior friends and been a few years since we have been there. We catch and release only and love the Bass there!
Any info is appreciated!

Yes there is some growing around the old areas where it was thickest but it isn't very tall, maybe a foot off bottom. I think all of the salt cedars had to completely die before it started. Next year it will be good though.
The fishing is good but the fish are mostly dinks. Top waters and small crankbaits and small swim baits around points with willows.
Tons of 8 to 12 inch long bass. There are still plenty of good ones in the lake but it is hard to catch them. 13K of new flooded brush tends to spread them out.
Bring a crappie rod and fish the shaded bridge pilings and the spillway.

A couple of months ago there was some decent Hydrilla around Long Island. It was topping out in 4-5 FOW but was somewhat scattered clumps. Should look even better in that area by now.

Fishing is pretty slow.. catching a few smaller fish on Texas Rigs. Some Sandbass on topwater, but hotter than i thought i was supposed to be. Fishing morning/evening. Guess the bigger fish are a lot deeper! Still have a day and a half left to fish!

I saw you yesterday when you pulled up to the Rocky point. I was on the dock crappie fishing.

Fished it last Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Caught 50-75 all between 10-16 inches. Lots on small crankbaits. Nothing big, lots of fun though. Could caught a lot more but thunderstorms kept getting in the way.

Local Game Warden said most all the bigger fish (Bass) all died during the drought due to lack of oxygen. He stated the State was going to have to do some serious restocking and management of the fishery. I was there about a month ago and it was like the dead sea. FYI

I talk to the Stephens county GW all the time about HC, he's never told me that, not a thing about a fish kill. I live 7 miles from the lake and have never heard of a fish kill from anyone. I was fishing HC at it's lowest point 2 years ago when it was 31' low and still catching good fish, and numbers. this was a month before it started catching good water.

Trust me, a big fish kill during the drought didn't happen.

Stompy and 9094 have forgot more about the lake than most know. I would listen to them regarding it over just about anybody else.

Something is going on.. There has many zero's in tournaments out there since May of this year..

What's going on is the lake went from 13% full to 100% full and scattered the fish. Lots and lots of cover in the water too. Also have a very healthy population of bait fish.
