I went fishing, yesterday.....I made a long cast with my Curado....was using 12# Berkley 100% flourocarbon.....then....the line broke....inside my reel.....I wound about 100 ft of the line in with my hands...retied.....about 25 casts later.....same thing.....this happened on 3 separate occasions....I just spooled the reel a few days ago.....when I got home....I inspected the remaining line on the reel....I could feel tiny abrasions through out the remainder of the line...it isn't the line guides on the rod (brand new)...has anyone else had this happen????? I'm thinking of emailing Berkley and complaining.....but....all they'd, possibly, do is send me another spool of junk......

This has happened to me. Sometimes when the spool of your reels turns against the housing of the reel it can grab your line. It tends to happen if you put too much line on or when you reel some slack in and the line gets folded close to where the edge of the spool. I was cussing the manufacturer too until I changed brands and I was still ripping line.

If its all the way down the line, then I don't know what to tell you...

To be honest, it sounds like the line guides. If you havent checked them all closely i would do that, even on a new rod it is possible to have a nick on one of the guides. Otherwise maybe it was just a bad spool of line

I really doubt it is the line bud. I know you said the rod is brand new but all it takes is having the dog walk by and knock it over. If the tip of the rod hits the concrete just right it can nick the ceramic insert in the eyelet. Seen it happen.

Had a spool this spring that I had the same problem with. Little rough spots all the way through. I grabbed the spool of leftover line and it was the same way, pretty much ruled out a bad eye on my rod.

Rub a qtip around the guides on your rod, any cracks, rough spots will grab the cotton. Making it slit easier to check the guides.

I've fished tournaments for over 30 years....I know all of the "tricks" to solving problems...ie...if guides are bad....q-tips...cotton balls...etc.....it's not the rod......if it was the rod.....why wouldn't the previous line exhibit the same problems???? the only difference....Berkley 100% flourocarbon....

The line is garbage. I've had the exact thing happen with other cheap brands of 100% fluorocarbon. Buy the more expensive stuff, or do what I do, just buy P-Line Co-polymer.

I had the same issue with 3 spools of 12, 15 and 17 seaguar InvizX. Broke in 4 different reels on different rods. Turned out to be a bad shipment of line to dry west Texas. My guess is it sat there for forever. There aren't any lakes out there so the product turnover is low. Tried emailing the company and got completely ignored. I bought some more InvizX out here in DFW and haven't had any problems. Same rods and same reels. Definitely a bad batch of line.

You ever backlash it? One good one that kinks the line and you have to pull it out will ruin it, and you will need to respool. Or it might have been an old spool, 100% berkley is good tough stuff.

I use Berkley 100% Fluorocarbon and it is great line, certainly not a cheap and inferior product.

Here's a follow up.....I spoke to a buddy of mine.....He gets Berley 100% F/C in the big 6000 yd spools.....he, too, has noticed that his line has nicks in it, through out the spool.....something went wrong with the manufacturing of their 12 lb line....I checked my 15 lb line....it's OK....Hopefully, Berkley corrected this "malady"....

You got a bad spool. Return it. I have a bulk spool of 12# that has only one fill off of it that is good batch if you would like to purchase it. I have a 15# spool the same.

I appreciate that.....but, I'm a poor school teacher....I can't afford a bulk spool of 100% F/C...LOL.....that's why it kind of upset me, that the $25 spool was bad......
