Never fished it and me and a buddy are thinking about hitting it Saturday. Two questions, is it too hot? I know its a power plant lake but I know there can be an epic frog bite past the bridge. Can you run the lake?

I haven't fished it in years so I may not be a lot of help but I have heard it is not a main line power plant any more, only generates when needed by grid.

Bob Sandlin is also right there, its a good back up if Monticello doesn't work out.

The fishing has been pretty tough lately up North and my guess after the Honey Hole show aired there's been 10X the normal traffic which probably didn't help either. After this week of HEAT with the stacks running full bore I would guess the main lake is 100-102 degrees and way up North is probably 95-99. And running the lake? Absolutely not once you get past the highway bridge unless you know what you are doing and that is just 1 run that gets you from the highway bridge to the railroad bridge. Once outside of that line its idle only and some of those idles are 20 minutes plus. The stumps in that lake are made of concrete with many of them 2-3 feet wide and cupped which is a perfect recipe for putting your boat on a nice pedestal. Good luck if you go.

This is 100% correct but this is the peak demand time for power in Texas so they have been running at least 1 stack every day for months.

Good info Chris, plenty of other good lakes in that area that might be better choices this time of the year.

Thanks for the info, I guess next question is how is Sandlin fishing? Never been there either.

I've been to Sandlin several times but not recently, did very well there, really like the lake. Could have won a tournament there once but I didn't enter cuz I didn't know lake well and was alone, I went by weigh in and I had the heavy stringer hammer

Cyress Springs is right there too, never been on it, looks to be a lot more open water than Sandlin and definetly more than Monticello, probably why it gets so crowded on the weekends.

I fish Sandlin quite a bit (I have a place in Thunder Bird point). Right now you can Carolina rig points and humps and catch some fish.

But if I was just going there to fun fish and did not know a lot about the lake, I would grab so medium diver crankbaits, drop shots and shakey heads go down to Millionaires Cove (one the southeast side of the lake) and start fishing the southeast point going into Millionaries. There are usually some Spots there that are ready to bite and a few largemouths mixed in. These break-walls are full of rocks, bricks and some actual boulders. They are all underwater now. Some of the boathouses also have brush piles near or under them. Fish all the way down to the single lane private boat ramp. Cross the cove and start fishing the break-wall which is made up of cement bags and work all the way down those docks. Try to get your baits underneath these docks and boat slips (skip a Senko with a spinning rig). Finish up on the SW point and if you did OK. Make another loop around.

You can also fish the SE point going into Millionaires cove but turn east instead of going into the cove, fish the point and the rocky shore going into the next little cove east of Millionaires Cove. Normally I do not do as well this way but there have been times it has been pretty good.

Cypress Springs has fish in it but by 9 or 10 at the latest the jet fleas, ski boats and wake boarders make it almost impossible to fish. Very rude boaters! If you get there before sunup. You will have several hours to fish. Then get off the lake!

Hope this helps.

Monti is generating WFO and the temps are running around 101 at the ramp to 109 at the discharge. Up north, Blundell and Smith creeks are hanging at 100 and are covered in solid 3 ft tall pad fields.
