I like a 7'3" medium-heavy, fast action rod and a 7.1:1 or higher gear ratio baitcasting reel.

As for line:

Sunline FC Sniper Flourocarbon

I like using FC Sniper because I feel like it's the best line on the market. This line is incredibly sensitive and strong. I don't feel like I have to bump up to heavier line just because I'm fishing heavy cover. It's very abrasion resistant as well. Good stuff!

Depends on cover and size of fish. Open water or scattered grass 12-15lb InvisX, around wood and heavy cover I'll fish 17-20lb InvisX, heavy heavy stuff straight braid Power Pro Super Slick. As a general rule of thumb for bottom baits, then lightest line and weight you can get away with will get you the most bites.

I fish McCoys Mean Green on everything, except a C-rig, then I use it as the leader. Strong as all get out to tow the boat around backwards and VERY low memory and abrasion resistant as well. Hope this helps. OH, my rig is an 8' XH musky rod built on a St. Croix Avid rod blank. I also use a 7'3" rod for pitching (Dobyns 735 Champion). I pair that wish an old greenie Curado in 6.3:1 ratio. Wish they had a 7.1:1 ratio in that reel, but haven't found one yet. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Lew's Tourny Pro G spool 6.8:1
16lb Sunline FC Sniper.
7'0 MH Duckett Ghost

16lb for Texas rigs, 12lb for wacky rig, shakey head, Ned rig, etc.

Fishing light cover I normally just flip a jig or a punching rig on 20lb FC Sniper and a 7'3 heavy.

HEAVY cover I use braid

Thanks guys for all the info....a little bit clearer info is i will be mostly bank and tube fishing in large size ponds and the coves in lakes...lots of vegetation and around 15-20ft max depth. Looking on spending around $200 on a rod/reel combo....im liking the 7'0 MH Duckett Ghost bc academy has them for $99.....i like the KVD reel 7.0 ratio for $79 if anyone saw it. Leaning towards the 15lb invizX redline Fluro.

I would go with the Falcon BuCoo, it is a much better rod than the Duckett and only $10 more. The reasons being is the blank Falcon blank is a higher modulus and therefore more sensitive, and the components are quality Fuji's. Where the Duckett has stainless steel guides that scratch much easier and then start shredding your line up. Also the quality of construction on a Duckett is laughable, particularly wrapping of the guides. Duckett makes a few loose uneven wraps of thread to hold the guide in place and then uses a gray tape to secure it before being epoxied.. Tape. Really?

I make custom rods and repair rods and I see Ducketts in for repair all the time versus rarely seeing any Falcons.

For the reel I'd highly suggest a Shimano Caenan 150A for $99, or any Shimano for that matter.

$10 more than what you proposed but a much better setup. Tackle Warehouse carries both with free shipping over $50 and I believe you get a free T-shirt at that amount.

15lb InvisX is a great line choice for Tx rigs. I'd suggest running a backing of a cheap line and using a blood knot to about 50-60 yards of your flouro. This lets you "respool" 3 or 4 times on the same 200yd spool. saving you $$$ smile

Oh, I forgot to mention! If you are comfortable with buying reels on Ebay, you can pick up a Shimano Curado for $130 bucks.. That is a phenomenal reel. The X-Ship pinion gear improvement makes such a big difference. The new Citica's also have the X-Ship. They both are reels in a different league than anything else in it's price range.
