Texas Parks and Wildlife is considering an alternative regulation for black bass (largemouth, Alabama, spotted, and smallmouth bass) at three public reservoirs. Alan Henry Reservoir, Moss Lake (Cooke County), and O.H. Ivie Lake all exhibit bass populations dominated by small fish (<14 inches). Bass in Alan Henry Reservoir and O.H. Ivie Lake are currently managed with a no minimum length limit (MLL), 5 fish daily bag; however, only 2 may be less than 18 inches. Bass in Moss Lake are currently managed under the statewide MLL of 14 inches, 5 fish combined, daily bag. An alternative regulation would seek to allow harvest of smaller bass, and increase abundance of larger bass. Your opinion is very important when considering which regulation will best serve a lake and its anglers. A short, 4-question survey is located online at the link provided, and the survey will be available through 12am on 7/13/2016: https://survey.tpwd.state.tx.us/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=regulationopinion

Guys! Those of us that fish these lakes regularly really need to take a minute and fill this survey out. With the considerations that they are proposing it would have major impact on tournaments on the lakes.
This is our chance to be heard, so lets let them hear it!
No way I want a 16" and under limit on Ivie.

Actually the 10 bass any size would fix the tournament problem. The tournys could all keep their 5 bass limit but the size would not matter. My only issue with that scenario is the all of the live bait guys on Ivie. Sometimes those guys have 5 giants each a night I dont want to see them get 10 giants a night. I wonder why all of the scenarios and not one that was 5 bass any size listed?

Didn't think of it that way. No size limit up to 10 fish would be ok but would have liked to see 5 instead.

Why not keep all the unders from tournaments and take them home??? Surely some guy in each club wouldn't mind cleaning em and eating em? Idk.....Lots of tournaments on all these lakes. Compounded over a year's worth of tournaments, that's a lot of fish! I would volunteer if i ate bass....lol

Thanks for posting. I've filled it out. I think there were a couple of options that would be good for AH.

The problem with these regulations is that I just don't think people will keep the small fish they catch. I haven't cleaned a bass in years and years---yet I gripe constantly about no one keeping the small bass they catch out of Alan Henry.
I think one thing that would help is building a fish cleaning station at Alan Henry. I caught a mess of smaller bass yesterday at AH. I was worn out when I got off the lake at dark, and there is no way that I would have carried a bunch of fish home in my livewell and cleaned them at the house/made a mess/etc when I got home at 10:30 p.m.. But if there was a decent fish cleaning station there at the lake, I might have cleaned them and then thrown the fillets in the icechest.
That lake needs some small fish gone in the worst possible way.

That lake needs some small fish gone in the worst possible way. I complained for years about the exact same thing. A friend once told me to quit complaining and being a hypocrite basically. I now filet 4 spotted bass every time I go. 2 for me and 2 for my wife. I've taken people out there and we will keep as many as we legally can.

Pontoon live bait fishing two years ago that had ten fish on a stringer that were pushing DD or bigger and all of them went to the table. A bunch get caught on jug lines and never get put back in the water.

I run the Friday Night Working Man's T and we give all the small under spots to the crappie fishermen, if there are any to tkae them. When we started, I kept a knife ready and said 3rd place could have the filets, but NO ONE wanted them, so we give the small spots to them. The bigger (2# spots) and all LMB go back in the lake. Thanks for posting this Mr. Bennett, I got mine and already turned it it. yesterday. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

14" min. is pretty good now for AH, with the good 3 year old spotted bass coming in at 16-17".
Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I would be glad to take home fish from the working mans, but would that put one over the limit?
I never keep fish when I'm by myself, cause its just not worth getting the knife out and making a mess. If I fish with two or more people I try to keep as many spots as legally allowed.
Brought home five from last wednesday. They will be supper tomorrow.

Moss lake is a real small lake, what impact could you possible get by putting regulations on the bass other than state required, also it is run by the city of Gainesville so let them put the regulations on the fishing limits. Also (9094) why do you think that live bait fisherman are different, you should really do your home work, regulations are for all fisherman.

Survey has a loophole, on the last 5 questions of the last survey question, you can only choose one, so if you disagree with all of them they will never know. And then say that we did not get very many votes on those. Same thing that has happened with previous surveys. Just my 2 cents.
