Anyone know how purtis is fishing. Going camping/fishing there next week and was wondering if anyone has some pointers? My dad was telling me he used to catch them pretty good out of the hydrilla but I heard it's all gone now.

I haven't been there for almost 2 months, but it was pretty muddy back then, and no one was catching anything except the people who were bank-fishing for catfish.

This response won't help you, but 10 years ago when there was tons of grass and hydrilla in the lake, it was an awesome place to bank fish. We used to catch fish 4-6 pounds from the bank every few trips. Only been once in the last decade (two years ago) and only caught one bass.

Was there last Saturday for a small club tournament. there is no hydrilla. TPWD's effort to grow shoreline grass is abysmal this has been going on for several years with little to show for it. I have fished the lake since the mid 90's and its sad to see it like this.
the water color appears stained to muddy, but you are actually looking at the mud bottom, clarity in most areas i fished was about three feet down.

i did not expect much, but fishing was surprisingly OK, most fish were small, our big bass for the day was 17 3/4 inches long, winning 5 fish (on paper) was 10.16 pounds.
Fish were caught on edges of the pond weed and some in the timber, small finesse texas rigged worms and crankbaits produced the best, during a brief rain shower they bit a swim jig very well.

Haven't been there in a few years, but when I was a teenager we used to buy goldfish or big shiners and catch good bass off of the piers at night .. Just using a slip rig about three foot deep ..they used to have a bait shop but not sure if they still do .
