Had a fun day on Monticello Wednesday. Landed 10 between 18 and 23 inches and a few smaller ones, lost a couple that threw the bait on head shakes when they came up, lost a couple more when I hesitated to grab fish boatside as I tried to determine where I could get my paw in mouth without getting trebles in hand... should have used net that I always carry, just got lazy on some of the fish. Almost dumped kayak on one fish that hit as crankbait was directly under me and only a few feet from the surface. I had already given up on the cast when it freight trained me... one second I'm slowly reeling in as deep diving crankbait floats up, the next second, rod and hand holding rod get jerked down into gunnel, left arm outstretched. No way to release drag as I'm using right arm and body to lean on opposite side of kayak to keep from going over. It definitely was the kind of stuff that gets my heart pumping. Two biggest weighed 6 lb 12 oz and 5 lbs 8 oz.

If the fishing wasn't as good as it gets, to meet Bill Wilcox on the water was the icing on the cake. Just as nice in person as on the Honey Hole! cheers

If you look at the row of buttons at the bottom of your post their is an Edit button. It allows you to fix a typo without having to post again. wink

Sorry for the late reply.. lost a lot of sleep on that trip and between that and work just getting back to normal routine.

He told me he was drop shotting.. I'd seen him catch one soon after he arrived but didn't know who it was at that time as I was busy too. When things slowed down (wind let up, current let up) I moved up next to the pilings and worked my way to his side as he slid back away from bridge and worked his way to the side I was on.. When we were about even with each other I decided I'd tell whoever it was what I had been catching them on. As I paddled closer and recognized him, I decided he probably didn't need any advice from me. roflmao He told me he was prefishing for show they were going to make on Friday. He had caught a big one earlier (9#) but I don't rememeber if he said he caught it shallow or not... he was all over the lake. When I got back to the ramp around 6:30 I met a couple of guys that were leaving... and told them about seeing Bill on the water.. One of the guys said "well that explains it, we thought it was some idiot that had no clue what he was doing running the north end of the lake." roflmao

Monti is a special place... nicest folks I've ever met fishing that lake.

I've never seen Bill use a drop shot on honey hole, I guess he only uses the fairy wand while no one is looking.

The plant was running one stack when I arrived that morning... lots of current and wind most of the morning when best bite was going on at the bridge. By the time he arrived there was very little of either and the bite was definitely slowing down. I hadn't noticed the stack but he sure did as he pointed it out that it was no longer smoking.

A few more pictures.

Couldn't get a bite around this stuff.

Wished I'd stayed late but winds picked up and I thought area was going to get hit hard with huge thunderhead forming. Of course it was long gone by the time I got back. bang
