I am thinking of getting another bag because I want to fish the coangler side next year and wanted to know what some of you are using and why.

Do you keep your plastics in their original pack or put them in a tray?

What about your rods? Do you just wrap them up together and go?

I have an older Berkley bag that I kept in my boat when I had a boat that was just used for extra stuff. Now I have 2 trays in it with the few plastics I have in their original packages stuffed in there and I plan on keeping a spare reel or 2 for a backup.

Yes I sold my boat and most of all my tackle so I get to start over again.

To pass more on to my two kids than was passed onto me.

It will depend from location to location. For the Central Open on the Arkansas River, I am taking 4 of the Zerust boxes that fit inside of a spiderwire tackle bag neatly. One has topwaters, one has terminal tackle, one has shallow crankbaits and one has jigs, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. The outside pockets hold my dye markers, scissors, pliers, etc. Everything has a spot, and it stays there. Having your gear all over the place is a good way to [censored] your boater off. I also carry a backpack that has my food for the day, sunblock and any other essentials, as well as the soft plastics I plan to use that day. I will take 10 rods to practice at the start of the week with the goal of narrowing it down to no more than 6 by the first competition day. That being said, what I carried in my tackle boxes and my soft plastics were drastically different when I fished the Open at Ft. Gibson last year.

Looks like you could put a dozen bags a plastics in the front pouch and at least 4 good size plano boxes a few tools, extra line etc

I always felt a coangler should be organized that he can carry everything he needs from his car to the boat in one trip. Small cooler for your lunch and a stuff bag for your rain suit, life jacket and maybe up to 5 rods and extra cookies for the boat driver.

More gear than this your infringing on the boaters space.

My backpack attach to the power pole and is out of the way as far as floor space. No digging in the one compartment all day that the boater will give you. Everything is at your seat on the back deck and attaches to the pole.

You can wear it to the ramp and it carries 6 rod and reels if you like. It has many compartments and elastic loops for all your tools, like pliers and etc. This is the only bag I take even when I go in my own boat. I just load it up from the shop walls for that lake I am fishing. It carries everything and then some.

They sell for $60 shipped to you. Pictures available on request.

I agree on which location is key, but I wasn't sure if you took out your plastics to put in a tray or just had a big sack that you loaded plastics in it with 1-2 trays for hooks weights and cranks. I know it's going to depend on personal preference but I was looking at the back packs also. Which kind do you have?

Last year I co-angled in BASS and all I used was three rods and a small tackle bag with four 3700's in it. It also carried 8-12 bags of plastics.

Don't over think it..you're not a pro boater. Keep it simple. A medium, medium heavy, and a heavy and a few of the REALLY useful lures....lipless, medium, squares, and jigs.

Also provide you're own cull tags.

80% of my fishing was whipping a Senko around. It was good for two top 20's and one top 5 outta three Centrals. Just throw whatcha know....don't try to be like the boater. Also, don't try to take too much. It will make you try too much different stuff.

Also, if you own a boat....take it and prefish the lake alone. You'll learn what plastics and lures to take pretty fast.

I carry a duffle bag with 1 main compartment, 1 outside smaller pocket and two end pockets with small inset pockets in them - found it at Goodwill so the price was cheap! I carry several 3700's - jigs, small cranks, big cranks, topwaters etc tailored to the lake and time of year. The main pocket is big enough I can also carry an extra jacket, gloves, cap or whatever. The little outside pocket holds weights and hooks as needed. One of the end pockets has aspirin, sunscreen, pliers, scale, cull tags and extra sunglasses. The other end pocket holds soft plastics in there original bag and is big enough to cover most any general need. The little pockets hold my jig trailers on one side the other side holds drop shot plastics, weights and hooks.

Like as has been said, keep it simple and believe in what you throw. Good luck!

I always used a Nike gym bag with a side pocket on each side. I could fit about 8 regular Plano tackle boxes in it and then plenty of plastics in the side pockets

If you do what SteezMacQueen says there will be two happy people in the boat. Very good input.
