Congrats to Tak. When some of the greats in the this sport are mentioned, I don't believe Tak is in the conversation as much as he should be.

He's a great ambassador to the sport in our foreign nations. He was very talkative all tournamnet and seems like a great guy. Funniest part was when the camera guy asked to see his bait and he said "nah" haha

I met Tak at a gas station in Childress a couple winters back. He said he was traveling back from out on the west coast. We were in town restocking deer lease supplies. It was bitterly cold but he still took the time to take a pic with me. He took his sunglasses off for the pic as well. Very respectful thing to do. I've heard nothing but good things about him from others that have met him.

Great guy and very good angler. Hard to believe it was 10+ years between wins.

Saw him at Bass Pro during a Spring Classic. He was one of the speakers and had a generic Q&A thing but that turned out to be very informative as he really tried to give detailed answers not the usual stuff you hear. Seems to be a good guy and I'm glad he is doing well in the Elites as it helps draw in a vast crowd of people that aren't that aware of bass fishing!

How was he able to fish for money when he came initially on a visitor visa?

"Once the motivated young man turned 21, he had saved enough money for a round-trip ticket to Dallas, Texas. And more importantly, he felt he had the skill to fish against the best fishermen in the United States at the 1991 BASS Invitational on Sam Rayburn Reservior.

Tak lands in the USA

With an international driver's license and $2,000 in his pocket, Omori rented a car after landing at DFW airport and drove to Rayburn. "It was really confusing, because the steering wheel was on the wrong side of the car and everyone was driving on a different side of the road. It took some getting used to," Tak remembers. Luckily, he had time to practice."

That would be illegal per his visa, assuming he came here on Tourist/Business Visitor Visa......

Go arrest him then... ha ha.

I recall seeing a very early interview with him, he spoke zero English was all translated.

Read a story that at first he Slept in a rental car.

So I dont imagine in east Texas there are many Japanese interpreters hanging around. And this was pre-google translate. Pretty big brass to move to a place so different from where you are from and just say say F it... Sink or swim.

He did good... I like him.
