I want to give deep cranking a serious try this year and have a couple questions. First, I'm looking at the 13 concepts Crankenstein rod, is this a good rod for throwing 6xds, 8xds, 10xds, dd22s and Mann's 20 + 30+? Second, which reel would you use if your choices were a Calais APV or an old Curado 3.8? Thanks in advance for your advice.

I haven't fished the 13 Concepts rod, but have heard good things about it. I use the Dobyns Champion 805 CB RM rod. I fish an old greenie curado 5.1:1. The 3.8 is a GREAT reel for slow cranking and can take quite a while to get the llure in, but it can work there, I prefer the more medium speed, however. Good luck,. Hope this helps. Tight liens, keep safe and good luck.

I use a St. Croix 7'4" medium MOJO bass glass rod paired with a curado 200pg 5.5:1 ratio. Works awesome with all my deep cranks.

Never fished the 13 cranking rod. But do have experience with Power Tackles new Keith Combs Signature series 7'10 Cranking rod. This rod will throw all the cranks you mentioned. Power Tackle also makes one in the paragon series also XLC-3-7'11 it will as well for throwing them deep diving cranks.

I use a Cast-a-away 7'6 extreme deep diver paired with a curado g5. Works pretty well.

I use the Dobyns 805 cb RM For the DD22 and XD6 baits but prefer the 806 for the larger magnum sized baits. The 805 is paired with a curado e5 and the 806 a Daiwa crazy cranker.

The Lews BB1 pro in 5:1:1 makes for a killer cranking reel.

Since you live in Hurst go by Fun-n-Sun and look at the Phenix 7'11" composite rods. I will be getting one soon . Tim Brockway showed me these and I think they are some of the best rods for the money.

Same exact setup for me. You can get a great deep cranking rod for less. You can not get a better one.
