If the water temp is right for fish to be on beds what do you do when you can't see them? IE- dirty water from runoff or there is too much chop from wind. Should you just cover water with a spinner/chatterbait or square bill? Or just fish points and secondary points?

Fish the areas you would suspect they would be on... Cover some water, but slow down in key areas. Just what I would do...

scoot big plastics slow in key areas, and rely on electronics to help out. If they are staging and feeding still you'll find them, if they are posting up on beds you'll at least find something to carry your bait off and target wit somehing else, but a big lizard or something else large will usually get grbabed and moved if it gets close at all in early stages when males on beds. That's what has been working for us is going bigger on the baits to find them and get bit. Bigger baits with lots of action without oving them at all, and just scoot em til you hit home.

I still look for areas where they will setup to bed. I visualize a bed being there and fish it just like I would if I were sight fishing. Make repeated casts, and leave bait sitting a whole lot.

The bigger the plastic, the better.... Here are some muddy water spawners taken on Brush Hogs

Electronics don't do much good in 1 to 2 feet of water though....

Its too windy when you can't hold the boat in the right spots...

And always wear your lucky hat.....

I am always targeting something sticking up above water for the bed to be beside in most lakes. I like using 1/2 oz. drop shot with Chompers Senko in Pumpkinseed with the tail tipped Chart.. They hate baby Carp. The Lizard and Brush Hog is hard to beat for pitching and flipping 3/8 oz. pegged T-rigs.

I greatly appreciate your responses. If I land a big one this weekend I'll be even more grateful.

Not my junk sonar mind you but I was under the impression that good sidescan units can be very effective finding beds

This is what I do also. Go down the bank throwing a wacky rigged senko type bait as I look for areas that look very promising to have a bed fish on. You can catch some cruisers and possibly one off a bed you did not see that way. When I find what looks like a good spot I will spend some time on it and fish it with a tx. rigged plastic. I use a lot of white baits so I can see them but if the water is too muddy I will use black/neon or black/blue. I throw craw tubes, small creature baits, and small craw type baits because I want them to eat the whole bait and not pick it up by the tail and carry it off the bed and drop it.

I cover water with a Swim Jig Fan Casting in shallow flats, if they don't bite the Swim Jig I will fish it with out the Skirt to Give it a less bulky Profile. I will also fan cast a Weightless Senko. This one, Two punch is super hard to beat!!
