First thought with all the muddy run off would be a buzz bait

Top water fishing is about trial and error. Start with a bait and color you have the most confidence in and experiment. My rule of thumb is the clearer the water the more subtle the bait and clearer more translucence colors- baits you can walk the dog do well here, as the clarity lessens go to noisier baits- poppers and slush baits with more flash or color. I personally have never did very well using top water baits in really muddy water. The buzz bait selection here is a great choice.
John K Fontenot Diapers and Politicians need to be changed often; and for the same reason.

i like spooks, sammys, buzzbaits for covering water. Particularly on windy days. i'll start with a spook and switch to a buzzbait if I'm not having much luck, or if the water is off-colored.
I use poppers and prop baits for working cover, casting past specific targets. Generally on calmer days, or in the morning/evening.
Frogs, for fishing grass and pads.

Most of the time I am throwing a buzzbait or a frog, but I also carry poppers and jitterbugs as well.

I am fishing windy banks near Henderson throwing buzz baits and they are crushing them. Caught a 9 1/2 this morning on one. Not sure how to post picture. (New to this)

Throw a whopper plopper. It's a top water with the best of the buzz and prop together in one.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

But also remember, sometimes the fish don't read the book on what they are supposed to do. I was fishing with a guy several years ago and we were in very clear water with scattered grass. He tied on a 200 series Devil's Horse and I thought there was no way he would catch a fish on it. And then when he started to work it, he gave it a heckuva jerk and made an awful fuss. Bottom line, I went to school that morning. Sometimes, you have to think outside the box with any lures/presentations, even topwaters.
