My commitment this year was to learn a new lake. Since Cedar Creek is only 20 minutes from the house I chose it. My questions are:
how does the lake fish in the wind ? (going to be very windy this weekend)
Does the lake get real rough,,,, as does Rayburn ?
Is it blocked enough with houses that the wind is not that bad ?
What are the best ramps to use ?
is there one pattern that is better than others ?

Log cabin ramp. Yes it can get rough with the right wind.

In my experience CCL is a no go if any more than 10mph wind. I hate that place.

Cc gets nasty in a north wind. South wind is not as bad.

I guess with 15 mph winds it could be tough out there this weekend.
Suggestions to fish ?

With the water warming up a little this weekend, I would focus on the back of the Caney and Clear arms of the lake with a blue/black jig under docks. As far as the wind goes, yeah, it can get rough, but that's spring time fishing, and there's no shortage of coves to hide in.

It will not be as bad as you think with South wind. Caney or log cabin ramp will work and I would stay in clear or Caney creeks. You won't be able to fish these in a long day of fishing. CC fish love chartreuse pepper and black and blue bitsy bug jigs. There are several isolated boat docks on points where the creek channel swings right up to them. Money docks, if they won't eat that jig they will be suspended and run a crankbait on it to get them.

Can be pretty bad in a south wind if you plan to fish main lake boat houses which is where I would try this WARM weekend. If that's your pattern start up by dam and fish the east bank. It takes some distance from the dam for the south wind to make it rough but it will. Ronnie is right about a north wind. It makes the entire main lake rough unless you want to park and bank fish under the upper 175 bridge:-). Still plenty of arms and coves to duck into to avoid high winds. Good luck!

Lake gets bad with north wind just as bad as Rayburn can be bad with south wind but not as bad as north. It's a 29,000 acre lake so it's pretty darn big.

I avoid cedar creek at all cost before water gets above 55 degrees or so. Any tournaments held out there in febuary I just skip. Lake fishes way to tough in cold water to bother with fishing her when you could go fish better cold water lakes.

Unless you are Robby Rose and partner... Then of course you are the only one weighing in 5 fish this time of year

Don't mean to come across rude...but isn't that part of "learning a new lake"?

I'd get feedback before I went to any new lake. I think basically he didn't want to get blown away and CCL is big enough that without some directions you could spin your wheels all day. Without questions, there wouldn't be a need for this board.

Yes it is,,,,but the Fishing Forum is also a way of getting help "BEFORE" going to a lake. I didn't ask for "spots",,,,,, I just asked about water safety, ramps and general patterns.,,,,,you know a place to start. Tony; you can learn the lake by spending several unproductive days fishing or you can ask questions and get help,,,,,,

By-the-way......
there are 2 ways to learn;
1.) trial and error/success
2.) ask and get help (that is why schools have teachers)
