It's hard to believe, water temps are still mid-50s on Lake Fork this late in the winter. So the fishing is much better than normal. In a normal winter, almost all the fish are bunched up in 40ft of water and basically hibernating (very slow fishing). I expect them to get in that pattern before the end of the month. But currently they are in a typical late-November/early December pattern.
Christmas eve and Christmas day, the air temps were 70s and the water temp was 58-60 degrees. White bass were stacked up where we could catch about as many as we wanted in just about every spot I checked. We probably caught 100 in a 1/2 day on Christmas on spoons. Largemouths were in several of the spots, and we caught quite a few on drop-shots and tailspinners, as well as a few on spoons. Then a cold front came in and brought the lake up 3 feet in one day (on Dec 27). With the gates running full blast and the muddy water getting progressively colder, I expected the water temps to be low 50s and the fishing to be tough. But I went out for a morning trip on New Years eve and surprisingly it was still 56 degrees. I took out a couple of kids and their dad for a few hours before they caught their plane back to Colorado. I planned on putting them on some white bass, but they were off that pattern and I didn't take the time to repattern them. So we fished for largemouths and surprisingly caught a bunch, including a couple that broke off and a giant that shook the bait when it jumped.
Yesterday, I went out for 2-3 hours and caught about 35 white bass and a handful of largemouths. Water temp was still 55-56 degrees.
The forecast looks good for the next couple of weeks. So I decided to extend my offer that I made last report. From now until January 16, I'm offering a guaranteed 2-person limit of largemouths (10 fish) or a total of 25 bass of any color (white, yellow, black) in a 5 hour trip.
If you want to take me up on this offer, call my cell phone today at 214-549-4644 or book online at the link below.
Promotional price is $250 for 2 people for 5 hours (noon to 5PM). $50/extra for a 3rd person. If we don't get 10 largemouths or 25 fish of any species, you only pay $50 (to cover a portion of my expenses).
Once the water temp gets in the lower 50s, the fishing WILL slow down. So take advantage of this offer while it's available.
Once the water gets cold, I will be recommending Lake Welsch. The water is warm there, so they bill bite good all winter long. I can usually find bedding bass there - and catch fish on topwater lures in the middle of winter.
Book your trip online at
http://www.fishingguidenow.com/bookonline.cfm?guideID=2 I try to post a couple of pictures to my Facebook page every trip. So keeping up with that page is a much better report than what I can do in front of my computer at home. If you follow my Facebook page (actually, the Facebook term is "like"), you can get my posts without delay. I often post pictures as soon as we catch them - and almost always post the same day. So if you see several big fish in the same day, you can rest assured the fishing is good then. If you wait until I post a fishing report, you can be sure that it has slowed down enough for me to leave the lake. Go to
www.Facebook.com/LakeForkFishingGuide and click the "like" option to get the posts.
Here are a few of the things that I put on the Facebook Page:
1) Pictures of clients holding fish (of course)
2) Pictures of landscapes around the lake.
3) Pictures and videos of wildlife around the lake
4) Fishing Reports
5) Updates about pages on my website
6) Updates when someone catches a giant bass on Fork
7) Basslog information
I plan to query the basslog at least once a month and post my results on Facebook. So, if you want to know the best baits to be using (for example) or you just like to see statistics, then you should "like" the Facebook page so you can get instant updates.
The link to remember for my Facebook page is
www.Facebook.com/LakeForkFishingGuide. But now you don't have to remember that because you can just go to any page on
www.bassfishing.org and you will find the feed.
Be sure to "like" the page so you can get the information as soon as it gets posted.
