I know I can catch more bass if I fish with a variety of lures and presentations. But I'm tempted to see if I can muster the courage (for this one winter) to only fish with jigs, knowing the few fish I catch will be larger fish. Included with jigs would be tubes or craw tubes, and other flipping baits. When fishing with any bait exclusively, a person learns little subtleties on how to use the bait more effectively. Any thoughts and comments on this subject would be appreciated -- and interesting, not just to me, but to a lot you I would think.

Do it. I've always done better with natural dark colors like green pumpkin and black and blue. 3/8-1/2 oz size. Flippin style jigs for heavier cover, football jigs on flats, bluff walls and flipping shallow water. Denny Brauer Structure jig for skippin docks. I stick to rage craw trailers, BUT you want less movement in the trailer with colder water temps, so a beaver/rodent style bait works well for that.

Thanks for the reply MagFluker. Appreciate encouragement and recommendations about the type of jigs.

Several years back, from thanksgiving to valentines I decided to only fish jigs because while I had caught some jig fish I had my butt whooped in too many tournaments by jigs. One of the best fishing decisions I ever made. It is now a year round staple for me. But I still like it best this time of year.

Thanks for the reply Billy. That is very encouraging. Right now, I'm thinking that I'll do it.

Also if I could pick one jig that would be the most versatile and catch them really well right now, I would say 1/2 oz black and blue mpack flipping jig with a rage chunk for the trailer. That new weedguatd style will really help you if your unfamiliar with working a jig in heavy cover because in the winter you have to fish the nasty stuff. The mpack weedguatd will save you countless lost jigs

What brand is your favorite flipping style jig? I have a good supply of football jigs but need to place an order for some flipping jigs.

I have had zero luck throwing a jig for two months now. It's depressing... But I will still chunk it

If you can fish a T rig well you can fish a jig. Slow down. Now, Slow Down Again. Repeat till you figure out you are still going to fast. Also brown with orange works well.

What colors do you use for your trailers? Black & blue jig use a black and blue trailer. Just try to match it to your jig color?
