The wife is getting really tired of me scratching up the dining room table getting my tackle ready before a day on the water and is now fully supporting a "Tackle Room" in our soon-to-be house. My web searches have shown a few really cool set-ups but the ones I have found are pretty over the top and searching TFF for tackle room seems to pull up almost every thread ever made. I guess there's no such thing as a "normal" tackle room so I'm shooting from the hip on most of this stuff. I've seen Doug R's place and that's what I've got in mind.... Peg boards, a work bench, rod holders and some shelves.

My question is.... Have you ever seen a room like I'm talking about that you could direct me toward? I get one shot at this so I don't want to leave anything out.

So far I have:
- Indoors so it's comfy year round
- 12 foot ceilings so rod tips aren't hitting the ceiling
- Beer fridge and TV
- Easy access to the garage where the boat is kept

Any other suggestions or photographs you guys have would be appreciated.

When I built my house join 2012, I built my man cave as well. If you are building it big enough for your boat as well, think about moisture and how you need to get it out. When you bring your boat back and the bunk boards are wet, it brings moisture into the shop. Mine is insulated and doesn't breathe well. I had to install a dehumidifier to help with moisture in mine. I put a bathroom, heat/ac, pegboard and lots of shelving and storage. Build bigger than you think you need, you will fill it up fast.

If you have fishing buddies over to the house from time to time, recommend adding comfortable seating for a least a couple guys to help you watch TV and drink the beer.

Mine made the mistake of saying that as long as she can get her vehicle she didn't care how big it was..... 36x36 garage with also an 8x12 inside storage later... I have a bathroom, tv, computer, fridge, bowflex, stationery bike and all of my fishing stuff.

Hindsight being 2020, if I had known that I would not be using an enormous deck I would've made it about 36x50....

Advice... if you get the green light to make it what you want take it and run

60X36 is a nice size; divided in two sections a front and back section.
- If you have the outdoor space make it a drive through so you do not have to back the boat into the unit, with a circle drive.
- Back section is 30X36 and is the work area with the boat in the center.
- Front section is for parking the truck and all the yard equipment.
- You will want at least two walls dedicated to full upper and lower cabinets for storage and working counter tops. I have 20 ft. and wish I had more; but I build baits and need the working surfaces.
- Get the upright plastic heavy duty cabinets from Home Depo. to build shelves inside to stack about 50 or so of the Plano 3900 storage boxes all stacked and labeled.
- Go online to find the pegboard hanger they are much cheaper there. Get plenty of the long 8 and 10 inch pegs to hold about a doz. packages of soft plastics. I have sections of the walls for lizards, worms, senkos/trick/fineness, creators/brush hogs and a catch all for the not so many color items like frogs and swim baits.
- In the back section the upper cabinets work as a shelf on top of them, where I put clear plastic containers so I can basically see the large items that are not used very often inside of them, before getting out the ladder to get to them when needed. Put florescent lights under each of the upper rows of cabinets to light your work area.
- Pegboard the whole thing. You want be sorry.
- You will want a insulated roll-up door between the two rooms. This will allow you to air condition the back part for working in the summer. Air is 220 cool/heat. I also have a side door on that partition to go into the back room without raising the big door. You will also want a side door to enter the front section from the drive way. Another side door in the back to go outside would also be nice for leaving and going to the house without going through the front section.
- If you build a drive through you will want all the roll-up doors on controllers so you never have to leave the truck when coming in with the boat, out the back, turn around and drive back through to park the rig. If you have room make a circle drive to do this.

I did not send pictures because I have been lazy. It is so cluttered from building baits and pulling things out and not putting them up, I am ashamed to show it right now. It gets a good cleaning and organizing about every other month.

Keep in mind if you have scented plastics the room will smell like them. My garage does and I love it. A blend of garlic and anise oil. LOL

I have a tackle shed instead of a tackle room.

Are you familiar with Basszone? It's a site that originated in Oklahoma and has grown. At one time they had a video segment that was regularly posted that was called "in the house". It featured the tackle rooms and trophy rooms of pros like G-man, Ike, KVD and others.

A Google search of "Basszone in the house" will return a few different links to different episodes. For some reason some of them are now hosted on other sites but many are still viewable.

Insulate it, and put A/C and heat in if you can. Also if you can put a drain to park your outboard over. Definitely paint the floors.

Insulation, air movement and pegboard go a long ways for a Texas fisherman... White-backed insulation and white pegboard reflect a lot of light and really brighten the place up nicely.. Also if you buy the 10" pegs you can put 8-10 zip ties spaced out and hang a lot of hard baits while keeping them spaced out enough to reach each bait.

Now I have to put a piece of cardboard down on top of it first. Lol.

......and still no offer for a tackle room. I'm waiting for her to step on a drop shot hook in the living room. Man. I'll get thrown out of the house and my "tackle" with me.
