Is the Newer Shimano Curado 200 I; better than the Old green basically bullet proof ones? (Besides the extra bearing the new 200 I throws in)

The "greenies" were/are great reels but they have improved them over the years. The gearing was moved so the reel sits lower in the rod seat. The black cast control knob, which was plastic and very loose, has been replaced by a metal knob. The access cover accessing the centrifugal weights is now "hinged' to the reel, reducing loss. I like the new Curados but I still have 6 left handed ones that I use for saltwater fishing.

Personally I hate the offset gearing
I can get a better grip on the older ones, but then again I have gorilla hands

No, the old green B models were made in japan, much higher quality tolerence.

The old bantams were the bomb. I still use one. I have a new 200i and hate it

I have 8 200e7s and the oldest one still sounds better, is smoother and is just better than the 200i that I bought. I even have one that spent 24 hours at the bottom of Falcon I prefer to my 200i.

Makes me glad I never pulled the trigger on one of the new I series. I have an older Chornarch 100b and love that reel.

I bought one of the new I series and won't buy another one. The made in Malaysia tag says it all.

I have 10 of the 201E's and 6 of the 51E's and I don't believe I will ever part with them....reliable, smooth and fit my hand well!

I still like the old greenies and with the occasional cleaning they still work as good as new.

I wish they would make another run of the old greenies. I'd buy ten new ones in a heartbeat. Still using mine and some of them are 15 - 16 years old.
I hate photobucket.

Bought a new Curado last year because I loved the old Green model so much. Thought the new ones would be as nice....wrong! They don't cast as well...thinkin' its the new spool braking system...and they require lots more maintenance. Thinkin' about replacing it. I love Shimano reels but the new Curado was a step backward...IMHO
