I likely haven't invented anything new here, but maybe someone will find it useful.
I use the various drop shot swivel hooks, started with the Gamakatsu swivel hooks with the swivel on top to tie on to the line, then one of those cinch grips below the hook to attach a separate piece of line to a drop shot weight.
Yesterday, I fished this rig using more of a power size, one of Rivera Tackle's 3/0 hooks. He doesn't show them on his website with the cinch grip . . . but he makes and sells them. One less knot to tie and more adjustable, too.
So, anyway, the tip is that I have found that if I hang up drop shotting, it is often down at the sinker. So, for me, I use 10 lbs. braid main line, to an 8 lbs. fluoro leader, to a 4 lbs. mono or other cheap line for the line down to the sinker. If I hang up down at the weight, about 90% of the time for me, I can grab the braid and "pop" the 4lbs. test, save my hook, grab another short piece of line and snag another sinker on it and off I go.
I may be "crashing through an open door" here, but for anyone who hasn't tried this, there you go!

Glad they are working out for you Brad! The tag piece of line for the weight can be of any make and brand that is relatively cheap...You are on the right track! Enjoy!

Haha. Yep. Open door. But for me, I use tungsten drop weights. It's still expensive to lose them.

I just use 12 pound sunline sniper....doesn't matter how it's hung up, I can get it loose.... I don't want to lose my tungsten either!
