I have a Navionics Platinum chip. Not brand new but probably about five years old. Run it an 1197. On Fork reads fine with all the topographical depth details but I have absolutely no detail for road beds, creeks, bridges... What am I doing wrong? Thanks, 361v.

I don't think the chips from that time period have much detail like that

Thanks shotgunwilly. "Fish n Chips" shows ON. Never really knew how much detail I was missing until my son & I were looking for the 515W old road bed along the bridge on a very slow day last Wednesday. Looking online @ Navionics online map there is tons of detail I'm not getting. Basically only contour lines is what I get. Had this Platinum chip in a "new" Bird 898C SI on my old boat 5 years ago. Kept the chip. The Platinum was the latest & greatest at the time. Maybe this detail was not included then? What chip are people running that shows the detail on their website? Just feel like I'm defiantly missing a setting or step. TY.

You get the current data by doing an Update. All new purchases include a year of Freshest Data Updates. The Platinum card Freshest Data Updates can be renewed annualy if the card is 16 GB. The current Navionics maps can be VIEWED on the Navionics website's WEB APP. That is updated daily. If you want that data you have to update your card IF is a 16 GB microSD Platinum card. That will cost you the $99 annual renewal. Otherwise to get that data, you would need to purchase any of the map products that has Navionics Nautical Charts. Hotmaps Platinum South region Hotmaps Premium South region Navionics+ Preloaded has all the Nautical Charts for the US and Canada. You can also get the 2GB version of Navionics+ by purchasing the Navionics Update card for $99 and use your card to activate it. Then it becomes Navionics+ with no maps. You choose what locations to download to the card from any where in the US and Canada. Additionally with the Platinum and both Navionics+ products, you can download the Sonar Charts map layer. Sonar Charts is HD mapping created from processing user sonar logs. It is NOT Navionics data and is a FREE service. Both map layers are on the Web App. When the panel circle at the lower left is grey, that is Navionics Nautical Charts. When the circle is blue, that is the Sonar Charts map layer. Click on it when zoomed in to at least 1/2 mile.

One more thing, Navionics is constantly updating their charts with about 2000 updates per day "somewhere" worldwide. The WEB APP is updated daily also. What you see is what you get when you do an update. I check the WEB APP every few days to see if any of my waters have been updated, especially the Sonar Charts maps. If I see any changes I want, I update my cards. I participate in the Sonar Charts program and have done so since it was activated in the US. I have uploaded over 200 sonar logs, I quit counting after 200.

I went through the same thing with my older card as well. I saw avionics phone app. That had lot more detail than my current card did for lake Whitney. Got a new card and saw a huge difference with more road beds and submerged bridges and creek channels

Great info. Thanks Wayne P for taking the time. Final question then: Anyone know of a good deal on a new chip? Below retail at Bass Pro, Cabalas...? Any real reason to get the Platinum over the Premium?

In my opinion there's zero reason to buy the platinum over the premium. Here's a little better deal on eBay. You pay no tax either. Works out to be about $40 less than Basspro of Academy.

None really, platinum just gives extra satellite photos and still pictures of diagrams areas. None that really help with fishing, premium has same maps just not the panoramic pictures

If you want the extra map layer of Sonar Charts, you cannot get that with the Premium version. For me, that is why I purchased the Platinum version which was before the Navionics+ came out.
