If you guys are waiting to stock some of the lakes due to no cover in the water. Time is up.

They stock lakes every year. Not all the same lakes each year.

I think they are waiting to make sure all the stocked fish do not end up over a spillway or flushed downstream. I am no biologist but I would think not waiting till the rain and water levels stabilize a bit would be a waste of time.

Poor little fingerlings wouldn't stand a chance right now with all the current being pulled.

I actually think it would be better if they went ahead and released the fingerlings but they put them in the back water instead of the main body of water of a reservoir. The Ouachita River in Louisiana has always been known to have really good native LMB populations and I think the reason for this is when it floods every spring and water backs up into the woods the fish make way to any isolated area the can find in the back water and bed up. They hatch out and are mostly so far away from natural predators that a lot more of the hatch makes it. I noticed when I would fish this river if I got away from the main river a ways and into the back water areas I'd see schools of fingerlings pretty regular of different species of fish but mainly LMB's and Spots. By the time the river pulled back down to a normal state these fingerlings would weigh a few ounces and would be far less susceptible to being eaten by bluegill and such. The fish that TP&W will stock will be fingerling size but adult LMB's and other fish will have a tougher time finding them in the backwater......

They stocked Joe Pool last week while I was there. They told me that they stock it often but on their website, it shows 2006 was the last time.

I don't think they would even read a post that started with "hay" when it should have been "hey". They would have thought you were feeding the cows.

They might be stocking heavily right now because they are worried about the hatchery. I'm sure this much rain would mess with there ponds.
just a thought.

They are going to run out of fish trying to stock all the lakes that could use it!

I just hope they keep on doing the same kind of good work that they always have.
