This is what fishing is all about. I couldn't make this up if I tried. My dad and I fished a club tourney on Ray Roberts Saturday (RHBC). Start out the morning by putting our food in the icebox and a friendly mouse jumps out. Start fishing in the marina and a 6 foot long cotton mouth decides he wants to come on board. Our 7 foot medium heavy rods weren't quite stout enough for this pig, and he just kept coming. After he opened his mouth and showed us what he was working with my dad made the split decision to stomp on his head. Luckily, he hit the mark, and put every ounce of his 180 pounds on it. The snake went ahead and curled up around dads leg... Nice! I grabbed its tail and on the count of 3 he let go and I swung that SOB like a helicopter about 30 yards into the woods. 30 seconds of pure insanity!! No bites in the marina. Guess we were lucky. We run to the east side of the damn just in time to catch a couple small keepers... One of which had a very fat belly.. More on that later. Then the storms roll in... The kind that looked PURPLE on the radar. We beached the boat and took cover. Bilge wasn't working very well and boat was half full of water. Thankfully storm passed after about 30 minutes. Fish 20 minutes, then repeat storm process. Fish the last 3 hours of the day, miss all 3 bites, and head to weigh in with our 2 spots. Wind is blowing good as dad prepares his jump from boat to pier. Didn't quite get enough on his jump, tight ropes a few steps on the edge of the pier, and falls in, with phone in pocket. Good entertainment for most of the club! To top off this awesome day I open the well and there floats a half digested black bird. My fat spot was now skinny. What a day.

I laugh when family and friends talk about how much "fun" I have fishing tournaments. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it's hell.

As they say, some days you are the fisherman and some days you are the bait.

I have a big fear of snakes. I am not scared of many things, but I hate snakes, even if they are not venomous. Last week we were fishing a workingman on lake clark and about a 3 foot snake started chasing us and then got on the back deck. For some reason it got off pretty quickly.

Not to make things worse but if that mouse was nesting in the boat they tend to chew wires and what not. Might be good to set traps or something.
