Well I'm taking the old man down to lake Athens. He's grown up on cedar creek but has somehow never fished athens lol. I've personally only fished it a few times and never had a ton of luck. I know senkos are supposed to do great out there but that's about the extent of my knowledge. If anyone would be willing to give me a few tips or pointers to help me and my dad have a good day on the water it would be greatly appreciated!

Right now I would fish channels points and deep grass coming out of spawning pockets. Main lake points should be getting good too. If it's cloudy tie on a frog and fish the pads and matted grass. In about two or three weeks I will start looking for schoolers.

You can catch schooling 2-4# bass right now, early & late...... swim bait, top water spook, jerk bait.
throw a roadrunner; white 1/4oz head with a black or silver grub on the edges of the grass beds and over the tops of them until you find fish and then throw black n blue fleck or Watermelon red or Mardi Gras Senko with a real light weight. Purple and Gold flecks really do the trick.
you can also throw a stick jerk bait on the main points and catch a little bigger fish, but not as many.
there are not many pads up yet and my frog bite has been slow.
they were killing an A-Rig, but that has really slowed down.
PM me and I'll give you the exact spots to go.

Tuesday it was 50 degrees all day. Didn't catch a ton but by far our best bait was a rattletrap over the grass on and around points. Most were in about 8'-10' of water. Lots of "ripping the trap out of the grass but often that's when they would hit. Where is the grass? Everywhere!

Pic a bank that the wind has been blowing in to & has lots of boat docks.
Find the grass and fish in-around & thru the grass. You'll catch some fish.

My buddy and I went out there yesterday morning til about 2. We caught 5 fish around the 1-2lb range. Saw a bunch of bass cruising realllll shallow in between some boat docks. It was my first time on that lake so really just picked some random spots to try. Would have been a more successful day if I boated the fish I had on. I had 5 fish throw my lure(s). The grass is everywhereeee. Sitting in 8' and the trolling motor was acting as a weed whacker. We will go back Monday see if we can get better numbers.

I'll have to have a frog on when we go Monday. Did yall go back behind Goat Island? It looks like prime real estate to throw a frog.

Frog bite was good this morning in grassy coves.
Caught my PB for lake Athens, 24 inch skinny 6#, late spawned still had a bloody tail.
Caught several more in shallow grass in coves. Very early bite. Stopped for us about 10am, off to breakfast we went.
Other fish caught on BPS watermelon gold red fleck Senkos.
