You may be cooking your rice all wrong. We all know that many many vegetable crops are sprayed with many different pesticides. Well, rice is one and it's full of Toxic Arsenic. I bring 4 cups of water to a boil and then put in two cups of rice...salt and a little butter. Then I turned down the flame to LOW and cook for 18 minutes. Covered. In doing so, I was unaware that after the rice absorbed all the water, the Arsenic is still fully inside the rice.

Instead Dr. Meharg recommends the following process:
* Soak the rice overnight.This opens up the grain and allows the Arsenic to escape.

* Drain the rice and rinse thoroughly w/ fresh water

* For every part rice add five parts water and cook until rice is tender--do not allow it to boil dry

* Drain the rice and rinse again with hot water to get rid of the last of the cooking water

* Serve your reduced-arsenic rice

This may take a little longer but it will aid us in reducing our Arsenic intake.
