I’m in the process of getting this “new to me” motor ready for use. Plan is a general tune up with a kit from PartsVu, oil change, lower unit service, impeller, etc… My question pertains to the motor itself. The entire motor under the cowling is covered with a uniform coating of grease, almost looks sprayed on. I picked up the boat in Beaumont so figured the grease is a protective coating to inhibit corrosion? Never seen this before and curious as to y’all’s thoughts.

Yeah, the crabbers here spray that goo on their motors. I guess it helps.

Yessir, I figured a motor this old has likely seen the salt water. Reckon I’ll live with it this summer so long as everything else checks out. Thanks for clarifying.
