Hit a boulder and motor instantly died, was going 3-4 mph. Boat fired back up and ran fine for hour or 2 and then my prop locked up and will not go into gear. Fearing the worst, hoping for some not so bad news, any thoughts? If it is the lower unit, how are insurance companies as far as covering something like that? I have full coverage.

Tell insurance same as you posted here and you will have no problems. You need a new lower unit.
