Surely someone has hit this. No alarms, no codes, fuel - air pressures good. Acts like motor is in protection mode. 2000 rpm max. Idles perfectly. Throttle cable is a little stiff. With throttle to 2k, shoot air intake with Sea Foam Deep Creep and it picks up rpm. I put an electric low-pressure fuel supply pump and # 3 ign coil on it 2 years ago. Ran fine last year, first time did fine this year but second time out it started this.

Computer controlled. Different things could cause that. Best not to guess but to hook up to diagnostic to determine problem.

Doctors = diagnostic computers. Always get a second opinion if it is really important.

Hey Gary,
Just went through this same issue with my opti 250. Check the neutral switch located under cowling . Mine was sticking and engine would only rev to 2k and start jumping around while the smart craft check engine horn was blasting. A quick way to diagnose on the water is to disconnect the neutral switch and run it to see if it returns. At home , engine off, Locate the shifting mechanism under cowling and shift into foward, look for the switch to pop out ( should be visible) mine was gummed up with grease which caused it to stick. On the water I was able to get her to run by shifting from foward to reverse and back and she would run. Optis have a neutral rev limit at 2k, when that switch isn't working it thinks the motor is in neutral causing your issue. Hope it works for you. ( I have a mechanic friend with computer and it didn't show anything)

No shift interrupt switch on this motor. Motor will only start in neutral. I ordered another scanner from http://www.rinda.com/marine/

Update. Motor had map sensor and intake air temp sensor fault. 54 hrs TT and had 48 alarm entries. Runs great now.
