First, thanks to everyone who helped me out a couple weeks ago with tips and stuff for buying a used boat and all the tips and tricks! A lot of them really helped!

So, I have my boat. 2003 Tracker Tournament V18 w/ a 115 HP Mercury.

I cleaned her up mega good today, went the whole nine-yards with detailing.

Anyway, everything is amazing. She runs great, steers great, the guy who owned her took amazing care of the boat.

However, she does have some of the carpeting coming up in spots, here's an example:

Now, I don't care about the aesthetic application of the carpet coming up, but is it bad for the marine plywood to be exposed like this? Should I put something on the exposed wood to help seal it, or should I go ahead and re-carpet those areas? I also thought about putting some aluminum flashing over the exposed areas and screwing it down.'

Thoughts? Very new to boat ownership and I have a lot of potentially dumb questions.

I would recarpet it personally before it gets worse. Easier to do it now when you can use the existing carpet as a template than without it.
Ask me how I know. We have done both of our boats, the original carpet template makes it 1000% easier.

True, a friend of mine said he'd redo it for the cost of the materials, beer, and dinner!

Probably will just take him up on the offer.

I would look into this, if I needed to recarpet I would pull it all out and replace with sealed non slip rubber coating see thread below

I'm not going to do anything right now. I took it to a boat shop at Fork and they said the plywood is fine, it's all aesthetic.

I am eventually going to redo it, but I think I'll let it pass for a minute.

Thanks! The rubber sounds like a much better option.

yes sir. ive got several posts on TFF of boats we've done for some of our forums members . give us a holler when you decide what you'd like to do . our flooring seals the top of the wood , plus since you just bought the boat , you probably plan on keepin the boat quite awhile . you just pressure wash it off if needed and you'll never haveta worry about your floorin again . we have a procraft , pontoon , and a starcraft rollin right now but give us a holler when youre ready . non-slip and lifetime warranty thumb
