I've never bought a battery from Academy and wondering what some of you have experienced with purchasing one. My battery has some age on it but still cranks my Merc.optiMax...this engine requires at least 1000 CCA to start it. Assuming Academy has these batteries, I may be interested in getting one there. With a military discount at O'Rileys in Santa Fe, I can get one for about $80. Now I have to decide !! Not one of those $250 ones either!!

I've use them and Walmart's I buy often (3 to 4 years) and haven't had and issue.
BUT you have to make sure they are FRESH!
There will be a sticker with a letter and a number the letter is the month and the numbers are the year. DON'T buy one that has been sitting on the shelve more the a couple of months at the most
the fresher the better! A lot times I'll end up at Walmart since they'll have
batteries they are sitting around on the shelves for over a year....

Academy has 1000 CCA, I have one for my Merc and I have a 31 series for my trolling motor. I've been using their batteries for the past 15 years. My last starting battery was 5 years old and when I sold that boat and it was still cranking. My current boat (2012) has Academy batteries in it and will not have anything else. Very reliable in my opinion.

I'm running the Exide batteries from Academy, this is my second year with them and they are working great. I check the manufactured dates but at Academy they don't sit on the shelves very long.
