I recently purchased a boat with this motor and it is using way too much oil, as in 3-4 quarts for the first 8-10 gallons of fuel. When I trailered the rig today and tilted the motor the carburetors had oil leaking from them like they were flooded with oil.

This is this first VRO I have owned. Does anyone have suggestions on what to examine first?

sounds like it's getting oil, i just got a 90hp vro i haven't messed with yet, but what i read about the vro is when it works right, it's great, but when something goes out, it's expensive to replace plus possible related engine damage it does when it goes south, it is not uncommon to remove the vro system and premix your fuel, i like to know i'm getting oil so not knowing this engine of mine, the vro will be removed

pull the plugs to check for oil, pull the carb bowl plugs to see if there full of oil, check for external oil leaks around the tank and lines, check inside the exhaust hub for oil, that oil has got to be going somewhere, was it smoking

Best and least expensive fix is to remove all of the oil injection components and install an electric fuel pump. Oil will then be pre-mix.

On the motor there is a VRO fuel/oil pump. Runs about $500. If any of the internal reeds/diaphraframs isn't working correctly it would explain the oil loss.

My understanding it yes you can delete but you would want to cap off the oil pick-up and then disconnect the oil supply warning both on the VRO pump and on the oil supply tank.
