It's time to replace my cut, ripped, tattered and torn keel guard. I suspect that there will be glue residue from the old one once it's removed. I plan to use a heat gun to loosen the old adhesive to remove the old keel guard...
Any tips on removal and clean up from the old one?

I need to replace mine too. Do yours and tell me how it goes. I think a heat gun and a lot of elbow grease is the ticket or maybe a day laborer.

Quote below was Squibs reply to another thread on the same topic... Squib pretty much sums it up. I used a heat gun to heat the old one and it came off pretty easy - but it left a ton of the old adhesive stuck to the boat. I didn't have the 3M Adhesive remover Squib used. So I used the heat gun to warm up the old adhesive and then used my fingers to "roll" it up and remove it. GooGone helped with the final removal of what was left. As directed, I used alcohol to finish the clean up. Lots of "elbow grease". Removal of the old one and clean up/prep took about 2 hours. Once prepped, the actual install was a breeze. I laid the new one out flat in my hot garage for the day prior to install and it limbered up nicely. Just followed the directions and it went on with ease. A second person to hold the new one in place while I got it started worked well. I am replacing my Hamby's Light this weekend. Finally finished the removal of the old and the prep work. About to go back into garage and put on the new one.
My best advice is to be sure to spend plenty of time on the prep. When I pulled off my old one, there was adhesive the entire length stuck on the boat. I thought it would never come off. I finally got a plastic scrapper and some aerosol spray 3M Adhesive Remover from Autozone. GooGone wasnt hardly any help. The 3M stuff was amazing. I spent about 3 hours getting off the old adhesive and cleaning the area. I went over it multiple times with denatured alcohol after I had it fairly clean. It is now clean as a whistle. I'll let you know how the install goes from here.
