I have a 99 champion 221 with a merc. 300. i usually drive like a sissy but ever once in a while like to get on it. You can cruise all day at 50mph with no problem but if you get on it 9 times out of ten on harder accel. it does what i call wash out. jerks to the right. Like if you were in a fast car hauling butt and hit a water spot. It has a 25pitch trophy on it and someone told me to remove two of the plugs. its done it since new. any suggestions ?

I would try a 26 or 27p Tempest or Fury. Steve will know.

the plugs don't do a thing after you get on plane, they only let the prop spin up faster as you start out.
sounds like your prop may be breaking loose and catching again, do your rpm's increase when it happens then go back down?

Hard acceleration from stopped and the prop spins up while you just sit there is the prop grabbing air. If its doing that when you push it up from 50 mph I don't know. The only thing that it sounds like is the prop losing bite at high speeds but on a 221 thats not likely to happen or if it does it would not happen till you are close to the top end. With a 25 you just can't get that kind of speed that would be necessary to hook the boat. The times I've hooked one it goes left and its not going to be confused with jerking left. Its an immediate 90 degree turn.
Or.......Pat will be along and may be able to cipher your problem for you.

know 'xactly what your sayin'.. its in your set up.. prop, motor height, offset and how ya use tha trim... I've had same results tryin' different things when tweakin' a set up on several different boats... Pat or Steve can get ya goin' in tha right direction...

like TLW said. sounds like your engine is too high.
set the prop shaft height at 3.5" below pad. and leave it there for the whole run.
if it still does it... it's possible the blades are bent.

Do you have anything hanging off the bottom like a transducer? That will absolutely cause what's happening.

Yes it happens at faster speeds. Doesn't matter if you are cruising at 45 and get into it or if its you accel. from a idle. but only when it get to higher speeds. its for sure to me just loosing bite just not sure why. Sucks cause when it does it it sure does make you pucker up. I appreciate all the suggestions. I am going out sunday and will try leaving the motor where you said steve@scp.
