Have a 25hp merc(1989)w/burt piston.also have a 1986 Mariner 25hp w/good powerhead. will mariner fit the merc.Any thought on this would be appreciated.

same engine the yr may be the only difference. if the mariner just needs the lower unit take the one off the merc and put it on the mariner, much easier swap.

The merc is a tiller/long shaft the mariner has control box/Short shaft.Need to stay with tiller/long shaft.So can power head interchange?Thanks

It is hard to say. Your best bet is to call a Merc dealer.

they should just swap out unless there was a change made from 86-89.
my best guess is they fit.

Errr, sorry nope...
That vintage merc was built by tohatsu, same vintage mariner was built by yamaha.
