I have a buddy that has a new 2018 boat and motor and he is having issues with the motor cutting out. So heres how it goes... get to boat ramp, prime the fuel bulb, motor starts and runs perfectly. Shut motor off and fish a spot for a couple hours, starts motor with no issues but after a couple minutes of idling, the motor cuts out like its running out of fuel.... attempt to start motor again and nothing.... feel the fuel bulb and its empty on fuel... prime bulb up again and it runs perfectly until stopping to fish again.... then the same exact thing happens again.... so pretty much, the fuel bulb has to get primed every time before starting motor.... boat is in the shop now and mechanic is saying its a check valve or something similar sticking and is caused by the new EPA Regulations for venting or something but then mechanic also says that might not fix it either and the check valve or whatever is from the boat vendor and not the Mercury motor.
Anyone have this issue or know anything about it?
Thank you

The problem is with the primer bulb itself.

Shouldn't need to have to prime a Pro XS.

I accidentally found this not allowing fuel through it on a 2016 pontoon boat. Was running the 200 Optimax on the water, when it suddenly started losing power and died after running fine for 2 miles. Didn`t want to start back up, the bulb was flat. After several other checks and test, I bypassed the valve and it ran perfectly again. Installed a new valve and all is well. I have hit the same thing 2 more times since that first one. Defective anti-siphon valves. https://www.marinesupplydock.com/images/D/Fuel-Tank-Valves-AWD-9300FDV7-detailed-image-1.jpg

It's one of three things. Primer bulb, inline check valve, or fuel tank vent. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

Check valve at gas tank. It is brass, 90 fitting on top of tank Its not EPA, its CG required. Should the line come disconnected, it won't allow gas to be siphoned out of the tank, possibly into boat bilge or lake.

Fuel demand valve sticking and they will cause the fuel pump to become weak if it ran out of fuel and bulb was flat the valve stuck closed. I have seen a few that was running out of fuel while idling in gear. Not a fan of the fuel demand valve got to love the EPA....OPTI
