what silicone do I need?

need to resilicone just below my rub rail,should I redo the whole boat or just the area that is missing,and will any silicone do(home depot)or is there a special type that I need?

I would use 3M 4200, it can be removed in the future if needed. 5200 is permanent and will usually tear up the glass when removing it. Regular silicone will not keep it's seal and will shrink on this type application. I would just redo where it is missing, possibly doing it all as a winter project later....

There are very few applications that silicon is suitable for, especially in the marine industry/ Once silicon is removed, nothing will adhere to that area including a fresh application of silicon. 3M Fast Cure 4200 is a much better product. Even better were the polysulfide based products, but the EPS in all of their infinite wisdom took care of those.

I wouldn't want white on the rub-rail... look into BoatLife- Life seal or Life Caulk. They are clear. I think the Life seal is better. I would do it all at once. Take your time with a razor blade and clean with acetone first.
