I am having my motor rebuilt. Had a cylinder go bad and it is being rebuilt and fixed. My question is what should I do for the break in process of getting the rings reset on the pistons? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make and model would be good info to have. 2 stroke use conventional oil no synthetic mix or full synthetic. You need the rings to mate with cylinders. Use double oil in first tank of fuel vary rpm up and down no constant rpm no full throttle operation. You may have to open it up to get on plane then back off. Any computer controlled 2 stroke needs to have ECU reset to break in as the computer handles the break in process optimax is an example of this. After break in I would run a full synthetic 2 stroke oil. Always follow manufactures break in procedure.
4 stroke conventional motor oil in crankcase again the rings need to mate with cylinders. Follow the manufacturers Rpm and break in procedure. After break in I would switch to a full synthetic motor oil like Mobil 1 .
Take your time break it in right it will last a long time.

you trust someone to rebuild your motor , but don't trust them to tell you the break in process for it..that sounds strange to me...

The rebuilder will tell you what procedure they want you to follow.
