I have a wiring harness that comes from the motor and wires that arent hooked up...this is a used boat I just bought. The past owner said those never were hooked up to anything.
The controls, starter, and all that work right now, so I dont know what this harness and wires could be hooking up to.
anyone have any idea? This is located right close to controls (by the throttle and gear shifter)
Its a black plug lookling harness and then a red, green, gray, and brown wire will crimped on wire connects (the clear plastic connectors)

Various outboard models and various boat models have many options. The engine wiring harness is supplied by Mercury. Mercury doesn't provide unique wire harnesses for each of the myriad of combinations. There's usually ONE wire harness for a class of motor that covers all possibilities.
As you try out all the things on your boat, if they all work, then do not worry about the harness wires your particular boat did not need. For instance, do you have tilt/trim? Some of the wires are for that. Some motors have it, and some don't, but the same harness is used with both motors. Do you have a tachometer?.....same thing.

Is there any way to check and make sure the oil sensors work?

You sure its not the connector for a smart craft guage?, don't know if you can attach one to a 50HP or not...
