1995 Mercury 200hp 2.5L Xri EFI When doing a compression test on this engine, is there any special steps other than just hooking up the test gauge? Is throttle to be held open during test? Or any other step before performing the key turn?

Pull the kill switch and yes to full throttle will give more accurate reading after warm up.

do leak down test also.
tells you a lot more about the condition of the cylinders with pistons at top dead center.
