 Boat titles

I just paid off my boat. I got the title for the motor and the boat in the mail. Shouldn't I get a title for the trailer, too?

If the trailer has a title, by law you only need title for boat and motor. If there's a title or "homemade"

yes you should. i'm going through the same thing now on a trailer i paid off 12 yrs ago. i can get plates for the trailer every year because it's registered to me, but has a lien on it. i've sent all the paper work to DMV,now i'm waiting for an answer. and you need to go to the TPW office with your titles for boat and motor and get the lien removed. even though you have the title, they still show a lien on it. it's your responsibility to register it in your name. i spent 6 months getting a clear title on a car my mom bought that had never had the lien released, even though it was paid off and the title sent to the owner.

Check the paperwork you got with the trailer tag. If it's under 4,000lbs gross weight it does not require a title in the state of Texas. When I bought my rig from a shop from the lake Fork area it was an out of state rig and titles for everything. But when I paid it off I never got a title for the trailer. They told me the shop never paid for a title since it was under the weight limit on the out of state title  I plan on getting one, it's not too hard since I have all paperwork but will cost me a day of work and twice what it should have if he would of just did it. Also on the front of the titles is a release of lien area that may have been signed by the bank when they were sent out to you, if it is you should be good.

Also on the front of the titles is a release of lien area that may have been signed by the bank when they were sent out to you, if it is you should be good. thanks, i'm aware of the no title thing, my jon boat has a untitled trailer. my big trailer was registered at 1000# weight with a 4000# capcity, making a total of 5000#, making it over the 4500# limit and making me having to get it inspected. however, i was able to lower the capacity to 3000# and come in under the limit, so no inspection and no title if i want, but i'm still trying to get a title for it anyway.

Go to your tax office and see what they say. The tax office here wants me to have the trailer inspected at an auto theft task force police station and get 2 forms filled out and signed there, then I needed to get the trailer weighed at a certified scale and get a slip, then there are about 3 forms to fill out take all that back up there and pay some fees then I could get a title. If I could not prove that I bought the trailer and still wanted one then I would have to get a bonded title at a regional title office. I would just see what your county tax office says, it may be different for your area.
