I have a 99 merc 40 horse elpto.. the powerhead for ther 40 thru 60 hp are the same,, the reed block is the same, and the motor is a 3 cylinder.. I took carbs of to clean and compared size of reed block mounting hole and carb venturi and they are the same size. 1.5 inches. what im wanting to do is try and make the motor a 60 hp. The carbs show different PN from 40 to 60 but I dont know what the difference is, maybe bigger bowls on the 60? anyone ever try 60 hp carbs on a 40?
I had a 65 hp evinrude and put 75 hp carbs on it and it ran super strong and idled great.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

those 20 extra horses would make a big difference on a 19 foot aluminum boat

IT looks like a 40 hp takes .044 / 052 jets and a 60 hp takes 058/ 060 jets I guess the worst that can happen is the motor might run too rich . I wouldnt think the idle circuit would be effected?
