I have a 2009 Mercury 150 Optimax that just had the TPS replaced.Second trip out, 4 beeps went off and continue even when water and oil level sensors are unplugged. No water found in seperator and oil is full. The beeps are 2 minutes apart. Mechanic says he is about 3 weeks till he can get to it. Any thoughts on what it could be?

Re: Trouble codes/beeps (SPRINT 290DC)
Well, you're in luck.... I just happen to be sitting here on the porch studying an EFI Course Technician's Guide right now....

LOW OIL LEVEL: The low oil level warning is activate when the remaining oil in the mounted oil resevoir tank drops below 50 fl. oz.... WARNING HORN EMITS A SERIES OF FOUR BEEPS.

ENGINE OVERHEAT: HORN SOUNDS CONTINUOUSLY

ENGINE OVERSPEED: INTERMITTENT BEEP until engine speed drops below MAXIMUM RPM.

ELECTRICAL SENSOR NOT FUNCTIONING: If the TPS, MAP, or CTS is not functioning, or is out of it's "pre-programmed diagnostic range", the warning horn will sound INTERMITTENTLY.

WATER IN FUEL WARNING: SERIES OF FOUR BEEPS.

These warnings were intended to be utilized with a "WARNING LIGHT GAUGE" (which provided additional information via lighted warning lights).

4 beeps is either low oil in the remote tank or water in the onboard filter. Third thing it could be is a low battery. First if your oil is not to the top it will set off the alarm. Simple fix if thats it. Loosen the cap. Run the motor and the tank will slowly fill. When its full tighten the cap.
If thats not it plug the water sensor back in and test the oil sensor.
Unhooking the harness only means the alarms will go off. Unhooked (open) equals alarm. Short out the leads once you unplug it and if the alarm goes away replace the sender.

I had the same beeps on my 06 Opti.

Here is the link to my posts then.

Most likely will need a new oil tank. I don't know of any way to change the sensor. They run around $100.00. It is not a hard job other than 1 bolt is hard to get to.

Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!
