Looking to pull the trigger on my next bass boat. I've akways ran Mercury, mariner, or yamaha ox66.
Was looking for some opinions on a 1996 Evinrude Intruder 175HP.
I feel uneasy about running an evinrude because I don't know much about them like I do Mariners ir mercurys. Older models of course.

Here's the boat also. Let me know what you think about it. It's a 1996 Javelin. When I saw it at the boat ramp it was cleaner than most new bass boats. There were 2009 rangers and new legends and this one stood out more. The guy is the original owner and said this boat has not spent a night outside. It Definitley looks like it too. There wasn't a scratch on the boat or trailer!

I had a 1995 Johnson version of that motor, but boat got smashed in a collision with a pick-up. Insurance totaled the boat and unfortunately got a new boat with a merc. That motor was the best motor I ever had. Owned it for 14 years and never needed a mechanic. Minor problems were all taken care of by me. Very simple motor to work on, and easy to locate parts. You just need to make a few extra trips to the gas station, she was always thirsty

I have the 96 johnson fast strike 175 (same engine, different name), take care of it and it will last a long long long time.

if it has the vro still in it you should switch over to pre mix and eliminate that worry, cheap to do and you can sell the vro for more than the parts to convert.

my 96

after vro removed.

I've owned a '95 Intruder and currently have a '92 Fastrike. Same engine just Johnson decals. Very good engines! I replaced a power pack in the '95 once. I changed the VRO out in the my Fastrike a couple years ago just b/c I thought it was time, and will keep changing it every 300 hrs for piece of mind.

Hopealong, one of these days mine will need rebuilding and I'm going to ask who you had do your engine work. That low water pick unit looks pretty sweet too.

it is not rebuilt, the guy I bought it from had it shipped to monty racing in fl. the day he bought it, I got it due to him going to yamaha and hydro tec for an even meaner set up. this one puts out 215 at the prop, per dyno.

as for the vro conversion I do most all my own work like that, easy conversion.

I had that exact same combo and those particular motors are great and is matched well to that boat. Mine was a real runner and propped right with plate and good prop would run 67gps. Unlike the 200 and larger OMC engines in that era, these will start easily on a cold day and will not smoke everyone out within a 50 yd radius. The boat fished very well and has a decent ride too. Good luck, as that rig looks to be well taken care of.
