Need some input from some guys that have actually used this rod. There are 2 types. The regular crankbait rod with a cork handle and the Palmer series with a split handle and a big trigger on the bottom to wedge your hand against. What is the difference in feel/performance. I was looking at the 7'6' med hvy model for an all around crankbait rod. Is this one too big for small squarebills? I know most guys probably have a big rod for big cranks and a smaller rod for the small stuff but I am looking for a compromise rod at this point. Any input on these rods is appreciated.

What depth do you crank the most? I'm sorry to say that I haven't used the rods you mentioned, but a 7'6" MH should be great for medium diving crankbaits. I would never go about throwing a 10XD on it (probably maxing out at a 6XD), and I would feel a little odd using so much rod for a shallow diving squarebill (although you could probably get away with it). If you fish the shallower end of the spectrum, maybe look into a shorter and lighter rod. Sorry I can't help on how that specific rod handles.

I have one of the david fritts perfect crankin rods, the 7 foot medium heavy with the cork handle and it is an awesome rod for squarebills and i actually throw 5xds on it. Zero issues with it and is pretty sensitive for a cheaper rod.
