Thinking about buying me a new Lews to use for deep cranking. I can get the bb1 speed spool on sale right now from 159 to 139. Being that I'm a college student on a budget I like the fact that I can get it on sale and not pay full retail. I can also get a Tournament MB speed spool for the same price. However it is not on sale so it would make sense to buy the bb1. What I do like about the MB though is the fact that I can externally adjust the braking system. Can anyone tell me how these two reels compare and contrast. Also, can anyone tell me which one is best for me to buy and why. Thanks...

By the way, I'm planning to pair it up with a cranking stick from BPS but still undecided if to go with regular sized guides or pay a few more bucks and get micro guides.

Just looking at both...the MB you are looking at has a high capacity spool and a 95mm handle which is the same as the bb1...they both have 14lb drag setups...the only difference I see is magnetic vs centrifical braking...I guess that would depend on which you are more comfortable with.

Another thing the BB1 offers is multi stop anti reverse and zero reverse anti reverse. Can anyone explain to me what the difference is and what is best for deep cranking. Thanks...

A zero reverse means that once the reel is engaged, as you reel up, there is no back play, that is, it is a one way street.

A multi-stop anti reverse means that once the reel is engaged, it allows a finite amount of back play, that is a touch of line reversal, or give, at increments as you reel in.

A good analogy might be to compare the action to a trailer ratchet where as you wind up, the trailer strap can retreat a bit to the last "tooth" until you pass over the next one.

This is a David Fritts input idea for Lews, a noted crankbait fisherman. He wants to maintain "feel" through the line not available when it is totally anchored via a zero reverse where any of this "feel" is passed down from the line and the fisherman feels it in the rod.

Brad

Well the BB1 Pro for $148.99 was definitely the reel I picked. According to the shipping information, I should receive it on Monday. As far as the rod goes, I really never wanted a BPS rod but after reading reviews and hearing from many people that their crankin stick is actually pretty good, I decided on it. The hardest part was knowing which action to get. Most of my deep crankbaits are about 3/4 oz. Because of that I went with the 7'10" MH which is rated for 3/8 through 1 and a half. I have always wanted to throw bigger and deeper diving crank baits so I was undecided if to get the MH or the H. Being that I dont have those heavy plugs, I went with the MH. If I ever buy 10XDs I am going to have to just use this rod. I am hoping it can handle them well if I ever need it to. I'm already itching to go out to the lake and start whacking them on my new combo. I went with the micro though, hopefully it is just as good. How do you like your combo???

I got excited about the Lews BB1 Pro being reduced in price so I ordered one from http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lews_BB-1_Speed_Spool_Casting_Reel/descpage-BBOC.html . Got it for $139.99 . Due in Monday . What is a good pairing rod for this reel that's $100.00 or under ??
