Hello all,
I have a 8:3 Lews MB that I haven't had long, for about a month now. The other day it wouldn't happen every time but to when or just putting tension on the rod the reel would back spin, that's handle and spool go in opposite directions. Does anyone know what might be the issue with this?
Thanks in advance.

I use braid on all 3 of my Lews never had a problem I could see small diameter braid on the spool getting pulled tight in between the strands sticking, I never use anything under 40#

Let me see if I can clarify it alittle bit more. When you try to set the hook at times, (Not every time this will happen) the spool and handle will go counter clockwise. Is there an anti reverse bearing in the reel that might be the problem?

Yep, sounds as if the anti-reverse is not engaging properly every time. Either service or replacement sounds like the next step since it's new.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

No, if you mean, backing up just a fraction. Some of the Lew's reels are purposely designed with that feature. It was designed as a feature owing to the recommendation of one of their fishing pros.
So, some models of Lew's have what they call "mult-stop anti-reverse" while others have "zero reverse."
If I recall correctly, the reason for a multi-stop anti-reverse is for "feel" where the angler isn't limited to visually waiting for the rod to tip over or the line to tighten . . . but that he or she can actually feel the fish through the crank handle.
So, if you mean a little tiny "play" in your handle in the reverse direction, you have this feature.
If it freely back-spins, then you have a defect.
You may still not like the anti-revese . . . many and likely most prefer the zero reverse.
Hope this helps.
Brad
