I've been looking at these two models (9s) and I really can't figure out why the HDS is so much more expensive. I currently run HDS Gen 1s, and with my new Xi5 I was looking to possibly upgrade my graph to link it. Both will link to it, both can use navionics chips, both are capable of down and side scan. So what is the big difference that accounts for the big price difference?

Warranty for 1 and no Ethernet capabilities on the elite model. Gen3 also has a better screen for sunlight viewing.

But I'm keeping my gen2's until they break.

You say no ethernet capabilities, but the Elite 9 and 12 both have the hookups for the NMEA 2000 capability, isn't that ethernet?

No. Nmea 2000 can share waypoints, connect to a motorguide xi5 with gateway kit or connect to a compatible outboard to view engine data. Ethernet will allow you to share waypoints, mapping cards, transducers etc
