I finally have found a boat storage unit with electricity and can now put a charger on my batteries when I am storing my boat. I have heard it is not a great idea to keep onboard chargers plugged in constantly so I was thinking about a wall timer type of device that would be able to turn on a charge every few days or so.

Any thoughts on the best way to do this?

It may be that on board chargers plugged in all the time are fine but mine is pretty old so I am leery.

Thanks in advance.

I've heard of several people using the timers with success. I just plug mine in and leave it to do it's thing but I use my boat one or two times a week and the longest that it sits is maybe 2 weeks on a rare occasion.

No need to use a timer of some of the better 'newer' chargers such as Dual Pro chargers and others ....powered to AC 24/7, they discontinue charging to monitor and only power back up once every thirty days.

Get a good charger, I use Guest. Plug em in and forget it. I've been using em for over 20 years and never have a battery problem. The first time it has any lag on starting up replace the battery and all is well.
