Has anyone experienced this problem with their XI5?
I only used this thing like 4-5 times this last time I noticed when I put it in stowed position and moved to my next spot when the front of my bass boat went up water was coming out of the head of the trolling motor. When I went out this weekend and tried to use it, I hit the propeller button and it shuts off right away propeller light turns off and battery turns red. But in my drive way when I put it down it works fine spins and propeller going full speed, took it back out and same problem happened when in water. I called MotorGuide and they said it might be the control board in the head because water got in it like the seal went bad. Has anyone had any issues like this?

It's s known issue and common in that trolling motor. Hard that it will short out the board. Hopefully you are under warranty

Two posts like this before yours. The one below was sent to me when I asked about water/oily water coming from the base of my unit. I've never had any water coming from the head of the unit but it sounds like its a common issue

I think I just got water getting into the lower unit is all. I talked to a repair shop he said that the xi5 has a shut off mechanism built in to prevent further damage when water gets in it just shuts down. Will see. They dont have a local authorized MG shop in Austin closest one is 45 minutes in Harker Heights.

I have had mine for well over 1.5 yrs - use it a few times a week......most of the day and never had an issue --- sounds like a bad unit
